10:15A Arrive Sinatra House
11:15A Arrive Cary Grant Estate
12:15P Lunch at Melvyn’s Restaurant
2:00P Arrive hotel

From the beginning, Palm Springs had Hollywood’s attention. Celebrities like Bette Davis, Clark Gable and Lucille Ball were among the first to cross the mountains that separate greater Los Angeles from the desert beyond. Their early vacation retreats were miniatures of their L.A. Spanish Revival homes. As a new architectural movement took root, Palms Springs proved fertile ground for architects like Albert Frey and George and Bob Alexander. The next generation of stars embraced the new design and spurred what would be later labeled“Midcentury Modern.”

Frank Sinatra arrived in the desert in the 1940s, and his presence can still be felt some seventy years later. His air-conditioned, low-slung Twin Palms ‘Desert Modern’ residence set the standard for postwar Hollywood glamour and embodied the pinnacle of casual living. The 1950s saw the arrival of Cary Grant; his Las Palomas estate was built as an exact replica of a 19th century Andalusian Spanish Farmhouse. The property is now protected as a class one historical site.

Your tour includes:

  • Guided tour of famous neighborhoods past fascinating architecture
  • Exclusive preview of Frank Sinatra’s, Twin Palms
  • Exclusive preview of Cary Grant’s, Las Palomas
  • Lunch (with wine) at the historic Ingleside Inn & Melvyn’s Restaurant, featured as ‘One of the Top Ten’ by Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous

Cooking at Copley’s on Palm Canyon

11:00A–2:00P

Palm Canyon Drive is the cultural artery that pulses through the heart of Palm Springs. Along this thoroughfare is the once vacation home and guesthouses of Cary Grant—now Copley’s on Palm Canyon. Inside the garden gate, the restaurant’s executive chef and co-owner, Andrew Manion Copley will present an al fresco cooking demonstration, which he will pair with fine dining and varietals.

Copley’s is an award-winning restaurant serving upscale American cuisine infused with traces of tropical and European flavors. Before opening on Palm Canyon, Chef Copley satisfied discriminating tastes at prestigious locations around the globe: London’s Savoy and Park Lane hotels, Melbourne’s Grand Hyatt, Maui’s and San Francisco’s Ritz Carlton (#1 formal dining room during his tenure), and Lanai’s Lodge at Koele (#1 restaurant in Hawaii, 3 years under his stewardship).

Your trip to Copley’s includes:

  • Champagne upon arrival

  • Garden-setting cooking demonstration by Chef Copley

  • A fabulous lunch prepared before your eyes

8:00–11:30A (2-hour ride)

This is a place of contrasts, of ancient and new, of peace and turbulence. It is also a place of power. Come with clear mind and the right purpose to enjoy beauty and mystery as you walk in the footsteps of our ancestors. —Cahuilla Indians (abridged) about Agua Caliente

This is a private guided journey into the Indian Canyons of Agua Caliente Indian Reservation, home to the Cahuilla Indians for more than 5,000 years. Palm Springs takes its name from the natural oases found among these canyons. Horses will be transported to a trailhead allowing access to the streams and native palms of these ravines during a two-hour ride. Our outfitter operates the area’s leading stable and has been family-owned and operated since 1927. The ride will be geared toward the skill level of the least experienced rider, which includes first-time riders.
